Combustion Appliance Safety TestingEvery appliance or fireplace in your home that utilizes oil, wood, coal, natural gas, or propane as a fuel combines air with the fuel to create heat. In this process, other byproducts are created, one of them being carbon monoxide (CO). Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can go undetected without the right equipment. Since CO is a lethal gas, precautions need to be taken to ensure exhaust fumes are exiting properly and not entering your building. If something in the system isn't working properly, exaust-containing CO can backdraft into your living space creating a potentially dangerous situation. When we do a combustion safety test, we check all of your combustion appliances for correct draft (suction up the exhaust flue), spillage of any exhaust gases (exhaust leaking into the surrounding area), and CO content in ambient air and in the exhaust fumes. |
